WICKED is the West End’s 10th Longest Running Show

Wicked musical at Apollo Victoria TheatreCongratulations to Wicked for this week becoming the West End’s 10th longest running show!

Wicked has been seen by over 5.5 million people since its premiere in September 2006 at the Apollo Victoria Theatre and has played over 3000 performances!

Executive Producer Michael McCabe said: “We are extremely proud to be joining such legendary shows as The Mousetrap, LES MISERABLES and The Phantom of the Opera as one of the 10 longest running productions in the West End. It is an incredible new milestone for Wicked and we greatly appreciate the continuing support of theatregoers.

Wicked is based on a novel by Gregory Maguire, and has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman.

Wicked is the untold story of the witches, from the story of The Wizard of Oz. The original version of the story was The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which is a children’s book written by L. Frank Baum and was first published in 1900.

Wicked focuses on the relationship between Elphaba the future Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda The Good Witch of the North. Their struggles with their differing personalities, rivalry over a love-interest, their reactions to the Wizard’s dishonest government, and, finally, Elphaba’s fall from grace. The plot is set predominantly before Dorothy’s arrival from Kansas, and includes mention of well-known scenes and dialogue from the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, starring Judy Garland.

Already a winner of 15 major awards, Wicked carries audiences to a land of wizardry and witchcraft with Grammy Award-winning music, Tony Award-winning sets and costumes, and brilliant special effects.

Now you can experience this fabulous musical adventure and discover that you may not really have been told everything about the Land of Oz…
