West End Live Saturday 21st June 2014
Well what a day today was at West End Live, the first one i can remember with no rain at all (hope im not jinxing it for tomorrow. So full of 10 year birthday celebrations the crowds piled in to Trafalgar Sqaure for 11 am Start when The Commitments kicked off a back-to-back show of talent from the West End. We were treated to all but one of the West End shows being in full costume today too which is always a treat and must have been very uncomfortable for some of them in the sun.
I spoke to some fans who had been queuing since 5 am so they could get a good spot. A real highlight for me was Wicked ‘As Long As You’re Mine’, Nathan Amzi and In the Heights. Still hoping for a West End transfer for that show.
The day was presented by lots of Heart FM radio DJ’s who conducted the crowd in happy birthday to you- very tuneful and a few west end waves.
Ending the entertainment today was The Royal Opera House Chorus who were being conducted by Placido Domingo: Placido joked with the crowds that as Spain and England were out of the World Cup they have given us Spain’s weather. He also advised us that if we do not have a ticket already to see them in a full show it is too late as no tickets were left. what a shame.
Tomorrow we have our very own West End’s leading man, Oliver Tompsett presenting, together with a special 10 songs from 10 shows that are no longer on in the West End that have appeared over the last 10 years. I will be there to snap away. If you are too, do NOT forget your sunblock my factor 50 has even left me with red skin. but all so worth it for a free day of West End Music.
