Rock of Ages star Natalie Andreou on life after Sherrie…
Opening at the Shaftesbury Theatre on 31st August 2011, and following “a year of ovation-inducing performances at the Shaftesbury Theatre”, Rock of Ages took their scorching tunes to the Garrick Theatre, where the show opened on 18th January 2013.
The five-time Tony nominated musical booked through to 2nd November 2013, when the final countdown reached its closing night. The show included smash-hits such as: Don’t Stop Believin’, We Built This City, The Final Countdown, Wanted Dead or Alive, Here I Go Again, Can’t Fight this Feeling and I Want To Know What Love Is.
Natalie Andreou who played the role of Sherrie, was with the cast from 2011, and earlier today she answered a few questions that I put to her, regarding life after Rock of Ages.
What are some of your favourite memories from being in the show?
There are so many to recall, it’s hard to remember funny moments. They happened every day. The one thing I will take away from the job is the incredible friendships I’ve made and developed over the 2 years we were together. When you’re in a show, it really is a lifestyle, so coming in every day and seeing those familiar faces always made it feel like home. Not seeing those faces every day has definitely left a little hole in my heart!
What is your underlying feeling about having been in the cast of Rock of Ages?
I feel incredibly lucky to have been part of such a special production. There wasn’t a day that went by when I wasn’t grateful to be there. Yes, it was one of the hardest jobs physically that I’ve ever done. But our last day for example, was such an extremity of highs and lows… seeing the audience out there who have seen the show over and over again still having such a wonderful time, really confirmed we had something special. The job was a massive move for me professionally. It was the first part I’d ever played and the fact that it happened to be an original cast in the West End really was a blessing. Still can’t believe it happened really. I’ll never forget it.
Have you any message to those that have come to see the show?
Just the biggest thanks for the support. It may not have been everyone’s cup of tea, but I genuinely hope everyone had as much fun as I did! It’s been incredible to meet people who came back to see the show over and over again, and knowing that it’s had such an impact in their lives, just goes to show how important a couple of years it really was, whether you were involved personally or not.
What next for you in your career?
For now, I’m taking a break! Haha, got to give those rocked out vocal chords a rest. But then who knows, I’m back into auditions now so we’ll have to see what the future brings. I can’t wait!
