Shakespeare in Love confirms 2014 West End

Theatre NewsThe Oscar-winning film Shakespeare In Love, is being brought to the stage by Sonia Friedman and Disney Theatricals

The stage adaptation of the Oscar-winning 1998 film Shakespeare in Love will premiere in the West End next summer at the Noel Coward Theatre.

Written by Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard  the cast of the Shakespeare In Love 1998 film included many popular names, including (but not exclusively): Joseph Fiennes, Joseph Fiennes, Gwyneth Paltrow, Judi Dench, Imelda Staunton, Colin Firth, Simon Callow, Martin Clunes, Antony Sher,Geoffrey Rush, Tom Wilkinson, Tim McMullan, Steven Beard, Nicholas Boulton.

Adapted for the stage by Lee Hall (Billy Elliot) from the screenplay, the show will open at the Noel Coward Theatre, probably in July but with dates to be confirmed.

Shakespeare in Love will be produced by Disney Theatrical Productions and Sonia Friedman Productions.
Directed and designed by Cheek by Jowl’s Declan Donellan and Nick Ormerod. The production will include a cast of over twenty-six actors and musicians.

Casting is to be announced.
Producer Sonia Friedman, is quoted as saying: “Every now and then a story comes along that cries out to be staged. This is one such story… This project has been several years in development and Tom Schumacher and I are thrilled to be confirming its world premiere in London.

Bookings for Shakespeare in Love will be open to the public in February 2014.
