Following our previous article regarding Benedict Cumberbatch taking on the role of Hamlet in 2015, The Guardian has today confirmed that he will take on the role, with quotes as follows.
Sonia Friedman, who will produce the Shakespeare play at the Barbican, said of Benedict Cumberbatch, “as one of the most gifted actors of his generation“.
The director of Hamlet will be Lyndsey Turner, following her success with the new plays Chimerica and Posh.
“I’m thrilled to be producing Hamlet with Lyndsey and Benedict, and we are all delighted that the magnificent Barbican has agreed to present the show,” Friedman said.
Cumberbatch’s Hamlet role has been rumoured for quite some time, and the Barbican will confirm it as it announces details of its artistic programme for 2014-15.
