Prisoner of Second Avenue Tickets

Mercedes Ruehl links up with previously mentioned Jeff Goldblum in The Prisoner of Second Avenue, by Neil Simon, which opens at the Vaudeville Theatre 13th July 2010, following previews from 30th June - running to 11th September 2010.

Her most acclaimed film role was in The Fisher King; with her performance in the film earning her the 1991 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress as well as an American Comedy Award, a Boston Society of Film Critics Award, a Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award, and a Golden Globe. Earlier she had won the 1989 National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Married to the Mob.

In 2008, Ruehl returned to the Broadway stage in Richard Greenberg's The American Plan playing the role of Eva Adler. The production opened at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre and the limited engagement ran until 22nd March 2009.

The Prisoner of Second Avenue is a black comedy set in the 1970's,
portraying a New York couple, Mel and Edna Edison, enduring the trials and
tribulations of city life. Mel is made redundant and the stress of an
economic crisis and urban life pushes him into experiencing a nervous
breakdown. The family assembles to offer support, with Edna stoically
bearing the burden of his disintegration and self-pity.
