Carousel

Book from a Selection of London Theatre Breaks

A truly classic musical, Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s CAROUSEL (adapted from Ferenc Molnar's 1909 play Liliom) broke the mould with its gritty, courageous and emotional look at relationships. The original production opened on Broadway in 1945, and ran for 890 performances. The show included the hit musical numbers If I Loved You, June Is Bustin' Out All Over, and You'll Never Walk Alone. Carousel was innovative for its time, being one of the first musicals to contain a tragic plot. The story of the love affair between Billy Bigelow and Julie Jordan, a naïve young mill worker. CAROUSEL is set to one of the most ravishing and celebrated scores of all time, the composer Rodger’s personal favourite, including The CAROUSEL Waltz, If I Loved You, June is Bustin’ Out All Over and You’ll Never Walk Alone. CAROUSEL has enthralled audiences across the world since its original Broadway opening in 1945. It is a true classic in every sense of the word.

This brand new production stars Lesley Garrett, arguably Britain's most popular soprano, as Nettie, with Jeremiah James, best known as a member of theatrical 'supergroup' Teatro, as Billy Bigelow and Alexandra Silber as Julie Jordan. This timeless and powerful musical is directed by award winning Lindsay Posner with stunning choreography by the world famous Adam Cooper.
