Built in 1921, the theatre was built by Sam Harris and Irving Berlin for Berlin's famed Music Box Revues. As of today, the theatre is co-owned by Berlin's estate and the Shubert Organization.

n recent years, it housed the short-lived Festen, the even-shorter lived (but better reviewed) Primo, Dame Edna: Back With a Vengence, the Tony-nominated Amour, as well as the original productions of Closer, State Fair, Blood Brothers, A Few Good Men, Les Liaisons Dangereuses and Side by Side by Sondheim.
