Brooks Atkinson Theatre

256 West 47th Street, New York, NY 10036

Seats Approximately 1051

Built in 1926 by the Chanin brothers, from a design by Herbert J. Krapp. After 1933, the theatre fell into relative disuse, until 1960, when it was renamed the Brooks Atkinson Theatre for the former New York Times theatre critic. Most recently, the theatre housed the sold-out revival of The Odd Couple starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. Though it received rather poor reviews, the show continues to play to packed houses, due to the fame of the two stars.

The show enjoyed some of the most impressive pre-opening ticket sales of any show in recent history, with the possible exception of Three Days of Rain, which starred Julia Roberts, and was completely sold out prior to opening. The new Twyla Tharp musical The Times They Are A Changin', which is set to the music of Bob Dylan, will begin previews at the Brooks Atkinson on September 25th, 2006. Other notable recent productions include the revival of Medea starring Fiona Shaw, Noises Off with Patti Lupone and Peter Gallagher and the ill-fated musical version of Jane Eyre.
