Blood Brothers Musical

Blood Brothers Musical

This Willy Russell classic is a book as well as a stage musical. The original production was written as a school play and presented in 1981. Russell then developed it into a play, which opened, in the Liverpool Playhouse in 1983, starring Barbara Dickson and Andrew C Wadsworth. It was only a modest success. The show transferred to London where it played for only six months before closing. Bill Kenwright took over the show and following a successful year long national tour it opened in the Albery Theatre (now The Noel Coward Theatre) in London in 1988 before transferring it to the Phoenix Theatre.

Still running after more than twenty years the play is set in Liverpool and is about twins separated at birth but whose paths cross in later life. This emotional story is about twin brothers Mickey and Eddie, who grow up in different social circumstances.

The story begins with a single mother in financial desperation who gives away one of her newly born twin sons and attempts to keep them from discovering one another's true identity. However, their lives become linked and her secrecy leads them to a tragic ending.

Now commonly regarded as one of the all time great British musicals, Blood Brothers has touched the hearts and minds of a generation of theatre visitors in dealing with two of the most pressing social issues of our time - inequality and unemployment.

The incredible score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It's Not True. Hailed as one of the best musicals of all time - scooping up no less than four awards for best musical in London and seven Tony Award nominations on Broadway - Blood Brothers is currently booking into its 20th year.

The recommended age for children is age 12 and above. Children under the age of 4 will not be admitted to the theatre.
