You’ve seen the hit movie now witness the horror live on stage! The Brookside Theatre, prove that they are “a cut above the rest” with their exhilarating production of Sondheim’s macabre masterpiece.
This multi-award winning musical tells tale of the infamous homicidal career of Sweeney Todd, the unjustly exiled barber who returns to London to seek revenge against the lecherous judge who coveted his young wife and falsely imprisoned him. Cheated of his revenge against the Judge, Sweeney’s thirst for blood soon expands to include his unfortunate customers, and – with the aid of his razor – he exacts a far more terrible revenge, cheerfully helped by Mrs Lovett who is delighted to give new life to her flavourless meat pies! Together, they cook up a hilariously macabre revenge scheme to slice their way through London’s upper crust in this crafty, comedic and breath-taking musical.
Though the piece is firmly set in the dark streets of Victorian London, where the stuff of nightmares lurks in every shadow, its themes are timeless – love, betrayal and revenge. Sondheim captures it all in this diabolically funny, yet chilling piece of musical theatre. Packed with Sondheim’s characteristically brilliant wit and dark humour, SWEENEY TODD is a heart-poundingly entertaining musical thriller, razor sharp tale featuring some of the finest music ever written for the theatre.
Slip out of your chair and get yourself over to the Brookside Theatre for a chilling night out… not to be missed, staged to raise money for the renovation of the Romford War Memorial.
