David Tennant returns to the RSC as Richard II, alongside the world premiere of Wendy & Peter Pan and adaptations of Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall and Bring up the Bodies.
Gregory Doran has announced our Winter 2013 season, in which he will direct David Tennant in the title role of Shakespeare’s Richard II in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
This is the first production in a new cycle of Shakespeare History plays that Gregory will direct in Stratford-upon-Avon over the coming seasons.
Also in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, writer Ella Hickson gives a fresh new perspective on a much loved JM Barrie children’s classic with her new adaptation of Wendy & Peter Pan, directed by Jonathan Munby.
And in the Swan Theatre, audiences will see the world premieres of Hilary Mantel’s prize-winning novels Wolf Hall and Bring up the Bodies, adapted by Mike Poulton, commissioned by Playful productions.
The two plays paint the compelling portrait of the political rise to power of Thomas Cromwell in the Tudor Court and will play in repertoire from December, directed by Jeremy Herrin.
Launching the season, RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran and Executive Director Catherine Mallyon make their first announcement as leaders of the RSC:
Richard II will transfer to the Barbican Theatre, London, from 9 December 2013 to 25 January 2014.
RSC Members’ Priority Booking will open on 7 March 2013 and Public Booking opens 18 March.
