As You Like It

As You Like It at The Old Vic

Sam Mendes returns to direct year two of The Bridge Project, with another stellar transatlantic line up including Michelle Beck, Christian Camargo, Ron Cephas Jones, Stephen Dillane, Juliet Rylance and Thomas Sadoski in an intriguing pairing of Shakespeare's pastoral comedy As You Like It and his late masterpiece The Tempest.

As You Like It is a pastoral comedy by William Shakespeare believed to have been written in 1599 or early 1600 and first published in the folio of 1623. The work was based upon the early prose romance Rosalynde by Thomas Lodge. The play features one of Shakespeare's most famous and often quoted speeches, "All the world's a stage," and is the origin of the phrase "too much of a good thing." The play remains a favourite among audiences.

The Tempest is a play by William Shakespeare, estimated to have been written in 1610–11, although some researchers have argued for an earlier dating. The play's protagonist, Prospero, has been usurped by his brother Antonio and the King of Naples Alonso. Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, and his daughter Miranda have been put into a tiny boat and sent away to an island far away from humanity.
